Interventional Pain Injections
We take an integrative approach to pain treatment, combining conventional and holistic methods to manage your pain effectively and enhance your overall well-being.
Integrative pain injections target the source of pain rather than just providing symptom relief. By addressing the imbalances, irritation and inflammation located within the soft tissues and nerves these areas can be restored to their natural alignment and stop the pain signal. Injections are aimed at delivering regenerative solutions to allow the body to heal itself and repair damaged tissues. These injections are minimally invasive, safe, effective and with no down time.

At our clinic, we understand how debilitating pain can be, whether it stems from a sudden sports injury or a long-standing chronic condition. We are dedicated to helping you regain your quality of life and return to the activities you love, no matter the cause or severity of your pain. Recognising that every patient and their condition is unique, we take a personalised approach to care, ensuring that your treatment is as tailored and effective as possible.
Your journey with us begins with an initial consultation, a critical step in crafting the most appropriate treatment plan for you. During this consultation, we take the time to review your full medical history, including any underlying conditions or past injuries that may be contributing to your current discomfort. We will also discuss your pain experience in detail, understanding not only where and how the pain manifests but also how it affects your daily life and activities. To further refine your diagnosis and treatment plan, we perform a comprehensive physical examination, carefully evaluating the areas of concern to pinpoint the specific tissues and structures involved.
If you’re tired of living with pain and ready to take the first step toward recovery, we are here to help. Schedule your initial consultation today and let us develop a customised plan that empowers you to move freely and confidently once again. With our expert care and commitment to your health, you don’t have to let pain hold you back any longer.

How many Treatments?
Most individuals will require 3-5 treatments in the initial phase to achieve optimum results. Results are more effective if the first 3 treatments are conducted a week apart. Individuals may require maintenance injections over the long term.
Types of Injections:
A trigger point is an area in the muscle that has formed a myofascial knot. This is where the fibres within the muscle have become misaligned, due to: poor posture, injury, chronic stress, etc. This myofascial knot causes compression of local nerves and exquisite tenderness to touch. Trigger point injections target these knots and provide restoration of the tissues structure through mechanical and pharmaceutical means. A solution of dextrose, sodium bicarbonate and lidocaine are used to achieve these results.
Trigger Point
Perineural
Perineural Injections, otherwise known as Lyftogt Technique or Neural Prolotherapy, are an effective treatment for pain originating around small surface nerves and the fascia layer. These are very superficial injections using 5% Dextrose. This almost immediately shuts off production of painful stimuli and helps reduce nerve swelling, resulting in near immediate pain relief. Nerves that are chronically or acutely compressed or injured swell and become depleted of their fuel source, glucose, this causes the TPRV1 channel to release CGRP, substance P, which is a pain signal to the brain. By replenishing the nerve with glucose and alleviating the compression, this pain signal can be shut off. Neurogenic inflammation, responsible for most if not all of chronic musculoskeletal pain, is driven from slow fibres “c-fibres” , which is why they are targeted with this treatment.
These superficial injections are fast, safe and effective immediately. They do not aggravate the tissues as some other deeper injections do. This allows patients to capitalize on the anti-inflammatory nature of the treatment without any downtime.
The first injections can relieve pain for a few hours to a few weeks. Pain will almost certainly return at some point, to some extent. Each treatment should result in longer lasting, more robust pain relief.
Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is an innovative regenerative treatment that involves injecting a dextrose solution into tendons, ligaments, or joints to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. By invoking a controlled inflammatory response, prolotherapy encourages the repair and strengthening of damaged or weakened tissues. This method is particularly effective for addressing chronic pain and instability caused by injuries or degenerative conditions. Over time, the treatment can reduce pain, enhance joint stability, improve movement, and restore normal function. Prolotherapy offers a minimally invasive option for patients seeking long-term relief and improved quality of life without relying solely on medications or surgical interventions.
Nerve Blocks
For some patients, their pain is derived from a specific nerve that is irritated or inflamed. For example, headaches can often be exacerbated or produced by the occipital nerve at the back of the skull being compressed by tight muscles in the neck and upper back. By targeting these nerves and providing local anesthetic around them, we can stop the pain signal from firing. Although the effect is temporary, when combined with other injections and pain management therapies, longer lasting relief is possible.
Please note Dr. Duyvewaardt does not do: epidural injections, facet injections, medial branch blocks.
